Rural Aspects
I am so fortunate to live near the Rockhampton Heritage Village where I find plenty of subjects for my next painting. It makes me happy to see heritage and pioneer villages across the country maintain and utilize these horse drawn carriages, to educate the younger generations of our history. I can just imagine the journeys made by the Cobb & Co through challenging terrain, carrying passengers and mail to regional and remote areas of the Australian outback. It always conjures a nostalgic sense within me.
Stepping back in time to when travel was at a much slower pace.
The first Australian coaching business was established in 1853. By the late 19th century it grew to great prominence carrying passengers and mail to regional and remote areas of the Australian outback.

If you’ve ever seen a good dog working cattle, you will understand the title. Some working dogs are just that little bit more smart, gutsy and special. This one is not perturbed by the size of the bull, he’s just getting on with his job.
This painting was inspired by watching the skill, love and trust between man and horse as they went through the lunging process. It shares with the viewer a small piece of rural life on the land. One can imagine this scenario being followed by a dusty, dry, cattle muster in the hot Australian outback.
I drew a small series in graphite and colour pencil for an exhibit to coincide with Beef Australia 2018. I enjoy working with graphite and love the effect of a splash of colour as the main focus.
The subject is from a Northern Central Queensland property.

My rural upbringing comes to the fore in this painting. A typical scene of good working dogs teaming up to bring the break-away weaner back into the mob. I love painting rural scenes!
Watching a good dog working cattle is always entertaining. Once again my rural upbringing comes to the fore in this painting. A typical scene of a good working dog getting on with his job by blocking this break-away weaner.
This painting could certainly put some ‘action’ on your wall!

The Australian sport of campdrafting.
I have great respect for and enjoy watching horse and rider working as one. It requires many hours of dedicated training to develop a good campdrafting horse and the skill of the rider is paramount. My reference for this artwork is from the Paradise Lagoons Campdraft in Central Queensland.
Feel the thunder of hooves!
With my passion for horses, I started drawing them as a young teenager. Memories of riding my horse on the family property in Western Victoria are cherished. My daughter inherited that passion for horses and a few years back when she was living near Blackall in Queensland I took several photos of these horses being run in to the yards in preparation for a muster early the next morning. From those photos I compiled this painting and I enlisted the help of my social media followers in search of the title.
